Exactly two years ago we were doing almost the exact same thing. Packing. Sorting. Selling. Giving.... in other words, dealing with too much stuff.
Have you ever noticed how stuff weighs you down? I can honestly say that I never noticed before our move to Costa Rica. Now I am feeling the pain of too-many-things again. Honestly, it's embarrassing.
How could we have accumulated so much stuff again? Why did we do it again? (Plus about 1,000 more questions like that.)
The bottom line is, we can't take it with us.
We are down to 16 days, and the stress is very high. We cannot possibly manage it all perfectly. Today alone, we have had numerous things fall apart. We haven't had water for two days, the car we were borrowing quit working, we were stuck somewhere for several hours waiting for transportation to get home, etc. It's okay though. Because the great God that we serve is MORE than capable! It's an amazing feeling to rest in the fact that He alone can and will orchestrate this mess that we call our life.
The things that we'll really be taking will be in our hearts.
The people we love here - they're going with us.
The children we've hugged and kissed and fallen in love with. Yup, they're going too.
The many precious friends we've made.
People we have encountered who have changed us forever.
The hope that we have in our hearts.
The blessing of seeing God move in miraculous ways.
The spiritual growth from having our own faith tested.
And we'll even take a love for the Spanish language that did not exist before.
Most of all, we leave knowing that we have family here. And that will always be, even on the other side.
We are so blessed, it's overwhelming. God is too good to us. I pray that we can keep that truth in the front of our hearts and minds. The Enemy is constantly trying to say otherwise, but he is a liar.
To close, here are some lyrics to one of my favorite Jill Phillips' songs. Hope they minister to you the way the do to me. Click the link to listen along here.
(P.S. - Please pray for us in these last two weeks. We would really, really appreciate it!)
All the treasure you hold, you can't take it with you.
Any silver and gold, no you can't take it with you.
You can make yourself a name, with fortune and fame, but you can't take it with you,
to the other side.
You could build your mansions high, but you can't take it with you,
All your hard earned pride, no you can't take it with you.
All the plans you made, to keep you sheltered and safe, you can't take it with you,
to the other side.
Love, real love, love
Love, real love, love
When that day comes, you don't look back
Love will be - the bags you pack,
for the other side.
All the scars that show, you can't take it with you,
And the ones that don't, you can't take it with you
Though your body breaks, from years of labor and pain
you can't take it with you, to the other side.
Love, real love, love
Love, real love, love
When that day comes, you don't look back
Love will be - the bags you pack,
for the other side.
All your worst mistakes, you can't take it with you,
He bore our shame, so you can't take it with you
At your final breath, you'll see all that's left is
Love, real love, love
Love, real love, love
Love, real love,
on the other side,
on the other side
on the other side.
